Mission
The mission of the Alaska Children’s Museum is to inspire lifetime learning and build community through family engagement and knowledge sharing that honors children’s need to explore and understand their world through play. We provide child-led playful, place-based learning experiences that are reflective of Alaska’s diverse Indigenous, settler, immigrant and refugee cultures.

The Alaska Children’s Museum is just getting started! We are working and to create a fun, inclusive space to play and learn but it will take a whole community to open the doors to a permanent home in Downtown Anchorage. If you are interested in being part of the planning and development of Alaska Children’s Museum, there is a role for every member of our community, from kids and parents to educators and knowledge-bearers. LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Anchorage is Dena’ina Ełnena, part of the continued homelands of the Dena’ina Athabascan People who have lived here since time immemorial. The traditional name for this place is Dgheyey Kaq’, meaning “mouth of needlefish.”*
This land acknowledgement is not a performative statement but a commitment to remembering where we have each come from, to act in meaningful ways to honor and support the rights of Indigenous Peoples, to recognize and help reconcile the historical impacts of settlement on Indigenous lands, to the best of our abilities, and to take responsibility for how we engage with each other moving forward.
